We are passionate about our marine environment and the need for specific conservation initiatives to protect it, both globally and locally. Our environmental policy is designed with that in mind and we already work on several scientific and conservation projects, with several others planned in the near future.
Reef ecology & biodiversity surveys
From June to August, Ocean Ventures manages the marine expedition research base and welcomes volunteers from Operation Wallacea (Opwall). Opwall is a conservation research organisation that takes team of students from schools worldwide on expeditions where they have the opportunity to work on real-world research programmes.
Each week, these volunteers complete a South Pacific reef ecology course, and dive training if not already certified.
In 2019, we plan to start conducting surveys of the local reefs using 3D mapping and stereovideo surveys.
We are passionate about our oceans so work hard to minimise our impact on our fragile island environment and precious marine ecosystems.
We aim to limit the waste produced by our operations, especially plastic, and to recycle our waste where possible. We encourage our customers to refill water bottles and to refuse plastic straws.
All of our divers are briefed before each dive and reminded to adopt safe and environmentally-sound diving practices.
